With a more serious take of the slave trade in Pre civil war United states than was offered by Django Unchained we are presented with the first trailer for the forthcoming film 12 years a slave. Based on a true story, the film follows Solomon Northup, born a free man who is abducted and sold into slavery in the Southern United States. This is his struggle for survival.
From acclaimed director Steve McQueen and featuring an impressive cast including Paul Dano, Michael Fassbender, Benedict Cumberbatch, Paul Giamati and Chewetal Ejiofor as Solomon. The trailer gives us a good insight into how the drama is being approached and certainly provides a window into what looks like a very impressive piece of work. It will be interesting to see how the director tackles a contriversial subject in a period setting. With his two previous films he has shown that he is a developing talent with a good eye for interesting and diverse cinema.
12 Years a slave is released on 18th October in the US and 24th of Jnuary 2014 in the UK.
