Given that Hollywood is always on the look out to launch a lucrative movie franchise it comes as no surprise that the character of Jack Ryan is coming back to the big screen. First seen playing second fiddle to Sean Connery in The Hunt for Red October in nineteen ninety the character became the focal point in two Harrison Ford films before being rebooted with Ben Affleck in the unfairly maligned The Sum of all Fears.
Based on the character created by the late Tom Clancy the new film Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit has just had its first trailer released. Crucial to some fans of the book series the new movie is not an adaptation of an existing story, rather it is an original screen play that has been adapted to include characters and elements of the Jack Ryan world. Taking on the title role is Chris Pine best known for his part in another massive franchise role. Support comes in the impressive form of Keira Knightly, Kevin Costner and Kenneth Branagh.
The film is released in the US on Christmas day and in the UK on Boxing day.
