In breaking news from Universal Studios it has been announced that Charlie Hunnam is no longer attached to the film adaptation of the best selling erotic novel. The departure is explained in a statement issued by Universal and Focus media which states
The filmmakers of FIFTY SHADES OF GREY and Charlie Hunnam have agreed to find another male lead given Hunnam’s immersive TV schedule which is not allowing him time to adequately prepare for the role of Christian Grey.
Whether this is the whole story remains to be seen but some speculation online veers towards the opinion that Hunnam realised that taking the role to the screen may not have been the best way forward for his film career and could quite possibly kill it off before it really got off the ground.
The studio is expected to announce a replacement very soon as the film is still set for an August 2014 release under the direction of Sam Taylor-Johnston.
