We are well used to hearing tales of actors going to extremes for the authenticity of the performance. Robert De Niro is famous for his dedication to his art which can entail changes in appearance as well as personality. Tom Hanks, no stranger in going to extremes for a film recently detailed the effects that this process can have on a person when he disclosed his battle with high blood sugar leading to a diagnosis of type 2 diabetes. His dedication to roles in Philadelphia, Forrest Gump and Castaway had all taken their toll on his system.
Released online is a fascinating featurette looking at Josh Brolin’s process for changing his overall appearance to portray a man who is held captive for twenty years without reason. It is interesting to see the lengths he is prepared to go to in order to make physical changes in a relatively short period of time.
Oldboy is released on 27th November in the US and 6th December in the UK.
