It has been announced that the much-anticipated seventh Star Wars film will get a release date of 18th December 2015. This will be the first in the series not to get a release in the month of May. Previous speculation pointed to an early 2016 date being announced due to JJ Abrams and Laurence Kasdan taking over the scripting duties for the film causing everything else to slip.
Alan Horn, chairman of The Walt Disney Studios has been quoted as saying “We’re very excited to share the official 2015 release date for Star Wars: Episode VII, where it will not only anchor the popular holiday film going season but also ensure our extraordinary film making team has the time needed to deliver a sensational picture”.
Casting for some of the major roles is still ongoing with open auditions taking place in the UK this week. Up for grabs are parts for a teenage girl and a man in his early twenties which has fueled the internet rumour sites that unknowns will be cast in the lead roles for the forthcoming trilogy. As usual we will wait and see. Principal photography is scheduled to begin in Spring 2014 at Pinewood Studios.
