For a film that had “straight to DVD” written all over it, Taken was a surprise hit. Made on a modest budget of 25 million USD, it made ten times that back at the box office. The inevitable sequel followed, and although poorly received, was a financial success.
Liam Neeson returns as Brian Mills for Tak3n, but at least they’re not just rehashing the same plot again. This time Mills is on the run after being framed for the murder of his ex-wife Lenore (Famke Janssen). With Forest Whittaker on his case as Inspector Frank Dotzler, Mills must elude the police while tracking down Lenore’s real killer. Maggie Grace returns as Kim, whether she gets kidnapped or not has yet to be confirmed.
Was Taken a one hit wonder, or can can the franchise be saved with the third instalment? Let us know your thoughts.
