Celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2016, MGM Studios’ Blue Velvet will return to cinemas, opening at BFI Southbank and selected sites across the UK. Set to the haunting melody of Roy Orbison’s In Dreams, David Lynch’s masterpiece of a sleepy small-town caught in the grips of the American Nightmare retains all of its disquieting power three decades on. Colliding sensuality and violence, voyeurism and innocence, menace and magic, Blue Velvet is a deceptively dark story of amateur sleuthing gone weird.
Kyle Maclachlan stars as the wannabe gumshoe drawn into a warped
lust triangle with a damaged femme fatale played by Isabella Rossellini and an unhinged thug played by Dennis Hopper. Equal parts shocking and compelling, it remains a potent dissection of the American psyche, its social mores and its sexual proclivities.
There’s something going on behind the white picket fences of Lumberton, North Carolina. And after stumbling upon a severed human ear in a field, mystery-loving college student Jeffrey Beaumont is determined to find out what. Teaming up with the daughter of a local police detective, Jeffrey’s investigation leads him into a strange world of nocturnal vice, with the intrigue of the missing ear seemingly stemming from the relationship between a troubled nightclub singer and a sociopathic sadomasochist.
Blue Velvet will be on UK screens from the 2nd of December.
