Kingsman: The Secret Service caused quite a stir when it was first released back in 2014. It was one of those surprise hits that helped renew faith in the British film industry.
It was dryly humourous and full of action, the perfect blend of the ‘stiff upper lip’ peppered with witty one liners. It was also great to see Colin Firth undertake something a little more light-hearted even if he starred in one of the most violent scenes in comic book movie history.
So, when a sequel was announced, naturally it caused excitement and anticipation. Even more joy stemmed from the fact that director Matthew Vaughn signed up to continue his excellent work from the original. He manages to capture the right mood; poignancy without sappiness, action without silliness and comedy without taking it too far.
The trailer for Kingsman 2: The Golden Circle doesn’t disappoint. As well as Taron Egerton, Colin Firth (wait, what?) and Mark Strong reprising their original roles, the sequel has managed to secure a host of well-known acting talent. The likes of Julianne Moore, Jeff Bridges, Channing Tatum and Halle Berry are all set to appear.
The plot is listed as: When their headquarters are destroyed and the world is held hostage, the Kingsman’s journey leads them to the discovery of an allied spy organization in the US. These two elite secret organizations must band together to defeat a common enemy.
It sounds like a typical heroes and villains piece – and we can’t wait!
Kingsman 2: The Golden Circle arrives in cinemas this September.
