Director and star Louisa Connolly-Burnham’s Sister Wives tells a beautiful story of two people who find love in confining conditions. Kaidence (Louisa Connolly-Burnham) is a married young woman living in a fundamentalist polygamous society. When her husband brings home a new bride, Galilee (Mia McKenna-Bruce), the sister wives find themselves unexpectedly drawn to one another. This romantic short has been acquired by Film4 and is currently streaming on Channel4. The film won ‘Best British Film’ and ‘Best Actress’ at the prestigious Iris Prize and has qualified for the 2025 Oscars and BAFTAs. It has just been announced this British short has also been longlisted for a BIFA. Sister Wives is also being developed into a feature film which plans to shoot next summer with Mia McKenna-Bruce set to reprise her role.
Louisa Connolly-Burnham is an award-winning director & screenwriter hailing from Birmingham who founded her production Thimble Films in 2019. In 2024, Louisa shot the now BIFA-longlisted Sister Wives the short which she wrote, directed, produced & starred in alongside BAFTA-winner Mia McKenna-Bruce (How To Have Sex). The short film started its festival run at Oscar-qualifying festivals HollyShorts (Best LGBTQIA+ Film), Deadcenter & Out On Film. Her directorial debut The Call Centre, which she penned, had a successful festival run, including Foyle Film Festival, Aesthetica & Underwire & winning audience awards at ÉCU Film Festival & Sunday Shorts Film Festival. The Call Centre currently has 2+ million views on Omeleto making it one of the most successful films on the platform.
