In a final promotion push for the forthcoming film Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom, it has been announced that a brand new U2 song will appear on the soundtrack.
Based on the book of the same name the film chronicles the life of Nelson Mandela from his early childhood, through his incarceration and up to the point of the first democratic elections in South Africa. It features Idris Elba in the title role with support from Naomie Harris as Winnie Mandela.
A lyric video for ‘Ordinary Love’ was released on-line on the 22nd of November. The song is notable for the fact that U2 rarely contribute original material to soundtracks. The last song produced especially for a film was ‘Hold Me Thrill Me Me Kill Me’ which featured prominently in Batman Forever. This song also marks the first new material from the band since the 2009 album No Line on the Horizon.
The film, already feted as a major awards contender will be released in the US on 29th of November ad the 14th of January in the UK.
