News that a reboot of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers was in the works felt overdue to some and baffling to others. I was a massive fan of the original series which has had more spin-offs than Saw has had sequels.
Now Schmoes Know are reporting that Chronicle writer Max Landis is in line to write the script. According to the site, Landis has submitted a draft to the producers. Okay, you now have my attention.
Lionsgate previously announced that it will be partnering with Saban to create and produce a new live-action film that will be the first in a franchise. Saban, who invented the Power Rangers brand, was acquired by the Walt Disney Company in 2001.
The official announcement said;
“The film will be a re-imagining of the original Power Rangers, the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers; a group of high school kids who are infused with cool and new super powers but must learn to work together as a team and harness their powers if they have any chance at saving the world.”
The original series was incredibly cheesy, as was the big screen effort, but in this post-Nolan world where everything has to be dark, chances are we’ll be treated to a grittier interpretation of the martial arts superheroes.
