There were many naysayers quick to slam the last Jack Reacher film due to the casting of the rugged anti-hero. Yes, Tom Cruise may not resemble Lee Child’s description of his protagonist but it was a good film, an old school action thriller.
Poor box office numbers in North America made a sequel unlikely, but when worldwide numbers were taken into account the idea was revisited and Jack Reacher: Never Go Back went into production.
Ed Zwick has replaced Christopher McQuarrie as director with Zwick and Marshall Herskovit involved in the script having rewritten early drafts by Richard Wenk. The story itself is based on Child’s novel Never Go Back where Reacher is charged with a violent incident and faced with a paternity case when he visits his old military base. Unfortunately he has no recollection of these events so expect hijinks to ensue.
Cruise is back as Reacher (sorry haters) with Austin Herbert, Cobie Smulders, Danika Yarosh, Aldis Hodge and Patrick Heusinger also starring. Holt McCallany has recently been added to the film with strong rumours suggesting he’ll be playing the villain.
Jack Reacher: Never Go Back is scheduled for release on October the 21st 2016.
