EIFF Youth Hub Programme Announced

youthhub-1Edinburgh International Film Festival (EIFF) has today announced details of the EIFF Youth Hub. Taking place from 17-20 June, EIFF Youth Hub presents a free programme of filmmaker masterclasses, workshops and careers advice for 15-25 year olds. Taking place in the atmospheric surrounds of The Church of St. John the Evangelist on Princes Street, EIFF Youth Hub highlights include a presentation from Pixar Director of Photography Ian Megibben putting the spotlight on the studio’s award-winning animations, and masterclasses with Foley artist Pete Burgis (Take Down, The Danish Girl, Captain Philips) and Costume Designer Alison Mitchell (The Rezort, Guardians of the Galaxy, Outpost: Black Sun). EIFF Youth Hub will also welcome the cast and crew of new Scottish feature Moon Dogs on Friday 17th (in advance of their world premiere that evening) and feature Director Jim Gillespie (Take Down, I Know What You Did Last Summer) on Monday 20th.

The programme is aimed at young people who love cinema and want to find out more about the process of filmmaking. For young people who are interested in careers in the industry EIFF Youth Hub offers inspiration, advice and information on the careers available. There’s also a creative and insightful Careers Surgery taking place on the morning of Saturday 18 June. Nicola Kettlewood, Head of Education at Edinburgh International Film Festival said: “We want EIFF to be accessible and enjoyed by young people from Edinburgh, Lothians and Scotland. EIFF Youth Hub is a free opportunity for them to hear from some of our visiting filmmakers and gain valuable careers advice. Meanwhile for those who don’t know what to see, our Young Programmers have recommended their favourite films and badged them ‘Young & the Wild’.”

This year’s Young & the Wild films come recommended by EIFF Young Programmers; a group of film enthusiasts aged 15-19 years old. Young programmers chair many of the events at EIFF Youth Hub and have recommended many of their favourite EIFF titles by badging them Y&W (Young & the Wild). They will also chair select Q&As at EIFF film screenings. EIFF Young Programmers are part of the Moving Cinema project funded by Creative Europe – movingcinema.eu.
