Actor Kenny Baker – best known for his role as R2-D2 in the Star Wars saga – has passed away. He was 81.
Baker rose to fame in 1977 when he played everyone’s favourite astromech droid in the first Star Wars film (laterly titled A New Hope) playing opposite Anthony Daniels’ character C-3PO.
Tributes have been pouring in around the globe including from Luke Skywalker actor Mark Hamill.

Baker’s agent Johnny Mans said the actor had been ill for a couple of years.
