Just when you thought that 2016 couldn’t get any worse, we get the news that the actor Gene Wilder has passed away. He had been suffering from Alzheimer’s disease for a number of years and complications from this led to his demise on Sunday. He was Eighty Three years old.
Wilder is best remembered for his portrayal of Willy Wonka in the 1971 film Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory. He got his breakthrough role on the big screen in 1968 in the Mel Brook’s comedy The Producers. He never looked back. He had a number of high profile hits over the next two decades with highlights including The Woman in Red, Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein. He also formed a successful partnership with Richard Pryor over a series of enormously funny movies.
He will be sorely missed.
