Back in 2003 you could barley get through a news bulletin without the mention of the phrase ‘Weapons of Mass Destruction’. During this time the US and its allies were preparing for a second war with Iraq. A new film, Shock and Awe, tells the true story of how the the phrase was used and twisted to shocking and potentially criminal effect.
In a post-9/11 political landscape, a group of journalists working for the Knight Ridder media company, covering George Bush’s planned invasion of Iraq in 2003, are sceptical of the president’s claim that Saddam Hussein has ‘Weapons of Mass Destruction’. Journalists Jonathan Landay (Woody Harrelson) and Warren Strobel (James Marsden) decide to play a risky game by questioning the true nature of the White House’s justification for the conflict. Shock and Awe depicts their race to unveil the truth, to change the course of history, in order to prevent another war.
The film is directed by Academy Award nominee Rob Reiner and starring Tommy Lee Jones and Jennifer Biel alonside the aforementioned Harrelson and Marsden.
Shock and Awe will be available on DVD and Digital HD from 10th September, 2018.
