Coming soon is the new drama Tehran: City Of Love. Directed by Ali Jaberansari, this bittersweet film focuses on three disenchanted characters all in pursuit of happiness: an ex-champion bodybuilder, an overweight beauty clinic secretary and a dispirited religious singer who yearn for love and connection in a city that does not embrace them. The film sees the ex bodybuilding champion now personal trainer, finding secret excitement in his life when he accepts to train a young man for the championships; An overweight beauty clinic secretary who lacks confidence in her physical appearance, uses her sexy voice to create a persona for seducing men she feels she could never have; and a dispirited religious singer tries his luck at becoming a wedding singer to increase the chances of finding the love of his life.
Born in Tehran in 1981, Ali Jaberansari moved to Vancouver, Canada in his teens. In 2008, after spending a year attending Abbas Kiarostami’s filmmaking workshop back in Tehran, he decided to follow his real passion for making films by studying at the London Film School. His graduation short film, Aman (2011), was awarded the Cine+ prize at the Premiers Plans Film Festival in Angers, France and the MEO Best Student Film prize at Lisbon & Estoril Film Festival. His feature film debut, Falling Leaves (2013), premiered at Montreal World Film Festival in 2013 and won the Federico Fellini Award for best international newcomer at Tiburon International Film Festival in California USA.
Tehran: City Of Love is being released in UK cinemas on the 11th of October.
